SARApAid future release announcement

From: "-SARApAid Mailing List" <esupport@coxsoftware.com>
Date: July 15th 2017

Compatriots,

Many of you have asked about the future of SARApAid since the inception of the NSSAR online application form so I will use this format to provide the information that I am aware of at this time.

The National Trustees is the group that now decides what information is to be collected on the application form and whether "outside" application forms (SARApAid, Word, etc.) will continue to be allowed.  At this point the Trustees have voted to continue to allow the use of "outside" application forms so long as they conform to the current national requirements.  Of course, this can change at any meeting of the Trustees when they get a majority opinion not to allow them.

As of the 2017 National Congress, several cumulative changes have been voted in by the Trustees.  Applications submitted after January 1, 2018 (this was changed from August 1, 2017) must be submitted on a form that is in compliance with their latest changes.

A brief outline of the latest changes and the explanations for them as relayed to me are as follows:

  • Children of the applicant will no longer be listed on the form.  Because the certification paragraph is now quite lengthy, room had to be found somewhere on the form to allow this extra length and it was felt that the applicant's children provided no relevance to information required to prove the applicant's lineage, so it was dropped.
  • The Occupation of the applicant will no longer be listed on the form.  This information had never been collected and used as intended, which was to identify the talents of potential volunteers, so it was dropped also in a search for additional space.
  • The certification paragraph has been changed and lengthened quite a bit.  The legal minds thought that much more clarification was needed in order to maintain the quality of membership that was desired.

Work on a new form in SARApAid is starting now, as I wanted to wait until after the 2017 Congress to be sure to include all cumulative changes in the new form.  I'll send out the usual announcement when the new version is ready.  Remember that you can continue to submit applicatons using existing forms until January 1, 2018.
