Problem Description:
There is a problem with the originally distributed CD software associated with the TXSSAR History Book Volumes I & II in that the software does not correctly recognize the presence of Adobe Reader version 7 (earlier versions are detected correctly). This problem will prevent the viewing of either volume if Adobe Reader version 7 is installed on your computer, even if it was installed after a successful installation of your TXSSAR History Book CD(s).
Characteristics:
1. If you successfully install the TXSSAR History Book CD(s) on a computer with Adobe Reader version 5 or 6 installed and are able to successfully view the CD(s), but then subsequently install Adobe Reader version 7 on your computer:
When you attempt to view the TXSSAR History Book(s) after the installation of Adobe Reader version 7, the following message appears: "Cannot find either Adobe Reader or Acrobat on this computer. Install Adobe Reader and try again.
Clicking OK in this dialog box terminates the program and the book cannot be viewed.
2. If you attempt to install the TXSSAR History Book CD(s) on a computer which already has Adobe Reader version 7 installed, the first thing you will see when the CD auto starts is a dialog box stating: "You will need to install Adobe Reader on this computer in order to view the TXSSAR History Book Vol. 1/2."
Clicking OK in this dialog box will allow the TXSSAR History Book Master Setup window to appear.
If you click on the "Install Adobe Reader" button in an attempt to follow the advice of the initial dialog box, the installation routine will eventually show a dialog stating "Setup has determined that an unInstallation has not completed. You should restart the system in order to complete this process. If you decide to continue the installation before finishing the previous unInstallation, the application may not work correctly. Do you wish to continue?" The recommendation here is that you not continue with the installation of Adobe Reader version 5.
If you click on the "Install" button in the TXSSAR History Book Master Setup window, the installation will complete successfully, but when you attempt to start the TXSSAR History Book application, the "Cannot find either Adobe Reader or Acrobat on this computer. Install Adobe Reader and try again." message will appear.
Fix:
If you already have Adobe Reader version 7 installed on your computer or think that you may possibly upgrade to this version at some point in the future, you can fix the problems described above by installing the upgrades posted at this web page.
Follow these steps to apply the upgrade:
1. Ensure that the TXSSAR History Book CD(s) have already been installed on your computer, even if they were installed on a computer with Adobe Reader version 7 installed.
2. Install the TXSSAR History Book Volume I Upgrade by clicking here and following the Download and Installation Notes below as appropriate for your Windows version.
3. Install the TXSSAR History Book Volume II Upgrade by clicking here and following the Download and Installation Notes below as appropriate for your Windows version.
Note: These upgrades contain only the patch to fix the application which opens the book, so if you don't already have the specific volume that the upgrade applies to installed from the CD when the upgrade is applied, you will not have a working TXSSAR History Book application after you apply the upgrade.
